V-SCRUB Efflorescence Cleaner
How to remove efflorescence from Saltillo tile is a common question. At Rustico Tile and Stone, we now have a material that can help clean efflorescence, V-SCRUB.
V-SCRUB cleans and etches efflorescence from terra cotta tile and saltillo tile. It also works on materials like concrete and masonry with industrial strength, designed to tackle even the toughest cleaning jobs. V-SCRUB cleans efflorescence, rust, leaf stains, mold, mildew and algae. V-SCRUB is more user-friendly than unformulated solutions or straight muriatic acid.
If you have an older floor that has not been sealed in years or if your saltillo floor is raw clay, then V-SCRUB works tremendously well. The sulfamic acid works to dissolve the lime and salts of alkali that is brought to the surface of tile or stone. V-SCRUB works quickly on unsealed substrates. It’s an effective cleaner for saltillo tile.
If you have efflorescence occuring on presealed material, a longer soaking period and more vigorous scrubbing will be required. Results are not guaranteed but as we’ve tested this product on both sealed and unsealed tiles, it’s worked 100% of the time to reduce the level of efflorescence. In some instances it may be necessary to remove the top layers of sealer and then apply V-SCRUB to clean efflorescence trapped under sealer.
A container of V-SCRUB comes in powder form. It’s forumulated to mix with warm water, apply to the trouble spots, soak for 5-30 minutes, brush with stiff broom, and thoroughly flush with clean water.
Because this contains sulfamic acid, take appropriate precautions to protect nose, throat and skin. It may damage grass and plants. Contact us to determine if V-SCRUB is appropriate for your project and to get a quote for material.
As with any terra cotta tile cleaner, it’s important to seal saltillo tile after any tile restoration process.
